A writer, photographer, and editor specializing in Alaska’s outdoors, Ken Marsh started his career in 1988 as outdoors editor of Alaska magazine (circ. then ~250,000). Nine years later, after working up to editor-in-chief, Ken left to become a freelance writer, traveling throughout the wild places of Alaska, western Canada and the Pacific Northwest.
Ken’s book, “Breakfast at Trout’s Place: The Seasons of an Alaska Flyfisher” (Johnson Books, Boulder, CO), was published in 1999 and his stories, columns, and images have appeared in Gray’s Sporting Journal, Alaska magazine, Alaska Beyond magazine, America West magazine, Shooting Sportsman, Fly Rod & Reel, Pointing Dog Journal, BC Outdoors, and many others.
In 2000, Ken returned to the 9-to-5 world as weekly fishing columnist for the Anchorage Daily News and later became widely known for his work with the State of Alaska as spokesman for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game and the Alaska State Troopers.
Today he has come full-circle, returning to work full-time as a freelance writer and photographer. Interested in all aspects of the natural world, Ken is available for assignments. For writing and photography samples, see Ken’s Wild Country Blog by clicking the link at top of this page.

“One of the most thoughtful studies of this enigmatic region ever to appear in print.”
